After a lunch of laughter and conversation, it could be time to explore; with a kayak or dinghy ride along the shore or snorkeling or fishing on a coastal reef. In the evening, unwind over a lovingly prepared dinner under the stars.

More on Coiba

Board your Coiba Island boat easily with us: from the mainland at Santa Catalina (shortest crossing/longer road travel from Panama City) or via David airport at Boca Chica (flights from Panama City and more time enjoying the yacht).

Coiba is the jewel in the crown of Panama’s biodiversity and of indescribable beauty. Almost all is virgin forest as a corner housed a penal colony until 2004, preventing access. It was Panama’s answer to Devil’s Island, and you can still visit the eery ruins slowly being reclaimed by the jungle.

The dolphins, turtles and stingray you will spot, the colourful parrots and other birds you will hear, the vibrant tropical fish you will spy and the unique plants and shells you will check out are testimony to the environmental wealth.

Getting here.

Choose to embark in Santa Catalina (closest point to Isla Coiba) or Boca Chica (option to visit Islas Secas as well and David airport transfer)

Option 1: Boarding at Santa Catalina or from a seaplane.

Our guests choose boarding the yacht at Santa Catalina as it is the closest point to the Coiba national park, about an hour’s sail away. Santa Catalina is a small fishing village known for its surfing and laidback feel. Guests boarding in Santa Catalina to sail Coiba with us drive from Panama City (about five hours)*. This also gives you road tourism options on the Veraguas Peninsua before or after you Coiba yacht charter. We can arrange accommodations options for you to choose from in Santa Catalina before or after your Cobia cruise.

Boarding time from Santa Catalina (Veraguas province): 2pm. Disembark by 11am on day of return. Easy pick up point in Santa Catalina. One hour journey to Isla Coiba Park.

(*Some guests choose to arrive in private seaplane at Coiba from Panama City rather than car. We can put you in touch with plane operators.)

Option 2: Boarding at Boca Chica:

Guests choose to board at Boca Chica if they are flying into David airport (45 minute flights from Panama City) or visiting Chiriqui province (including the famous coffee-growing highlands around Boquete). Boca Chica is the home port of the catamaran and accommodations can be arranged at our award-winning boutque hotel, Bocas del Mar. The journey to Coiba from here is around three to four hours, however you can add in a visit to stunning Islas Secas which is half way (known as mini Coiba), so you have a more diverse cruise.

In Boca Chica,  the transfer from David regional airport (DAV) – 50 minutes from Boca Chica – is smooth; we can offer transportation or arrange taxis and there are also car rental operators. David airport connects with frequent short flights to Panama City’s Tocumen (PTY) for international flights or Albrook (PAC). We include courtesy transportation from David airport for all Coiba yacht cruises if you group is arriving and departing on the same flight. You can see the location of the hotel and its dock here

Boarding time from Boca Chica (Chiriqui province): 9am. Disembark by 5pm on day of return. From private dock of Hotel Bocas del Mar to begin your Gulf of Chiriqui and Coiba cruise.

IN SUMMARY: Choose to board in Santa Catalina (shortest crossing to Isla Coiba, more road driving from Panama City) or Boca Chica (airport connections from Panama City and less road travel and more time on the yacht). Reach out to our reservations team for full planning assistance.
